If you follow this list of goodies we’re about to share, folks may be saying #SkincareGoals when they see ya! 😉 Well they probably already do now because our Cheeky’s are beautiful and amazing, but what better way to start out the new year than to go over a little refresher on some of our top skincare tips going into 2019.
As I mentioned before, the idea of doing ‘New Year’s Resolutions’ makes my skin crawl! If you’re into them, keep up the great work, I just get overly disappointed with myself when I fail to actually do the dang thing…. I’ll never forget when I was 12 years old, I made some hair brained resolution and I couldn’t keep up with it…. While I don’t remember the actual resolution, I do very much remember how DISAPPOINTED in myself I was (it probably was like, ‘Get an 80% or above in math class’… like we all knew that wasn’t gonna happen). But that’s also probably when I learned that I never do the same thing twice or habits are few & far between for me or if I don’t have confidence in the task at hand, I’ll never succeed. So it’s taken me a hot minute to realize that while I suck at making New Year’s resolutions and I no longer follow that path, I have come to realize that I can create GOALS.
Resolution – a firm decision to do or not to do something
Goal – the object of a person’s ambition or effort; an aim or desired result.
^ See what I mean… which one sounds better?! Even if it’s all just mental, I will happily oblige to the whole goal thing in 2019. One of my very main goals is to HAVE SOME DAMN FUN! I’ve made a lot of breakthroughs over the last several years & have some REALLY exciting changes to look forward to (don’t worry, I’ll keep ya in the loop) in 2019, so my goal is to basically LIVE IT UP! This should have been my goal all along, but sometimes life gets in the way & you have to deal with stuff you didn’t ask for or wish for (tough!), but when you make that breakthrough, it’s LIBERATING. So now that I have my shit together for the first time since seemingly 2005, I’m ready to have some fun!!!!!
And that’s not my only goal this year, as you can imagine, our other goal is to achieve even healthier more vibrant skin by following a few easy steps! YASSSS please! So now that I’ve babbled on and on about how much fun I’ll be having in 2019 – Meh… I’m thinking my shit load of fun will be starting in mid-2019, anyways, regardless of the date, I’m working towards it which means we can also work towards some skincare goals for this year (and don’t you worry, I am always perky regardless of the date!). Plus, we’ll be doing it together so it’s like I’ll be in your bathroom with you reminding you to BRUSH for one thing (very important if you’d like to remain social) & secondly, to please not use your face wipes for the 18th night in a row! Yes, I’m looking at you.
Goal #1 Wear sunscreen
K, thanks! Easiest & best thing you can do for your face. I mean, washing it is pretty important, but this is super crucial. Sunscreen is the foundation of any good skin care regimen. Ultraviolet radiation is extremely damaging to the skin and contributes not only to skin maturing, but also the development of skin cancer. Sunscreen is able to protect your skin from these dangerous rays!
If you’re really wanting to up this goal, take a ‘sunscreen supplement’… we do & we’re obsessed…. I think we’ve been taking them for the last 5 months. Plus, you can save $3 by visiting this link. And don’t worry, we don’t get any cash money from suggesting it!
This is quite necessary for me to apply sunscreen every day, take a supplement and always wear a hat. I’ve noticed DRAMATIC changes in my skin as I’ve been doing this religiously for the last 3 years (sans the supplement, that’s a new routine for me as I mentioned).
Goal #2 Give your face a workout!
I’ve been doing jade rolling for quite a while now and this is another one that we’re gonna stick with in 2019! Or you can get on the fascination train with me and check out Face Gym!
If you’re gonna get on the jade rolling train, you’d be surprised to hear what all it helps with!
- Fine lines
- Face bloat
- Lymphatic drainage
- Under eye bags
- Poor blood circulation
- Dull complexion
- Excessive tension
- Sinus congestion
- Plus more!
So if you ‘suffer’ from any of these annoying ailments, jade rolling is possibly the BEST thing ever!
Goal #3 Wash yo face
So this may seem like a no-brainer for some, but there are some of us who are still not washing your faces, at least at night. Makeup, dirt and grime left on the skin overnight will not only clog your pores & breed bacteria, but all that funk never gives your skin a chance to recharge and renew. If you are not regularly washing your face, your never allowing your skin to go through the natural self-repair process. Plus, you’re left with acne & red, dry skin.
Goal #4 Consider a probiotic
Or improve on ingesting the good bacteria to help not only your gut, but your skin!
Poor stomach health can result in many types of skin conditions, including (and certainly not limited to):
- Common skin infections – studies show that a poor functioning gut can actually impair the integrity and protective function of the epidermal barrier, which leads to a decrease in antimicrobial peptides produced in the skin
- Darkening of the skin – in scars & skin folds
- New growths on the skin
- Dull complexion
If this sounds like you, consider taking a supplement like Ultimate Flora Extra Care Probiotic which was originally suggested to me by multiple doctors. I’m actually taking a ‘smoothie’ approach to this good bacteria bit, so I’ll keep you in the loop on that.
Goal #5 Consider adding a vitamin C antioxidant to the mix
We have recently fallen in love with SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic! ‘SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic features a synergistic antioxidant combination of ferulic acid and pure vitamins C and E to enhance your skin’s protection against environmental damage caused by free radicals. This SkinCeuticals vitamin C serum helps neutralize free radicals induced by UVA/UVB, infrared radiation (IRA) and ozone pollution (O3). In addition to antioxidant protective benefits, C E Ferulic improves signs of aging and photodamage to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles while firming and brightening your complexion.
According to their website, this product is able to treat:
- Aging skin
- Sun damaged skin
- Free radical damage
- Dryness & dehydration
- Fine lines & wrinkles
- Loss of firmness
- Dark spots
We will certainly continue to use this product in months and years to come.
Goal #6 Add a quality retinol to your routine
This is another biggin! Sunscreen & retinol are the two holy grail’s seemingly in the skincare industry! Retinoids can be amazing exfoliators. They help to remove dead skin cells that could clog pores that cause acne flare-ups. They also speed up your skin’s cell turnover, while boosting collagen and elastin. How do they do that? They boost collagen and elastin by stimulating cellular repair.
When you add retinoids to your routine, you’ll benefit from the following:
- Protects against UV damage
- Encourages cell production
- Smooths wrinkles
- Evens skin tone
- Clears up acne
One study found that after using a prescription-strength vitamin A cream for 10 to 12 months participants noticed significantly fewer wrinkles, and medical experts noted an 80 percent increase in collagen.

Goal #7 Indulge in skincare masks more
This is one I look forward to! And I even practiced this goal even more so on Christmas & New Year’s holiday. Face masks are the perfect skin care treatment to help you with your skin care concerns. The right face mask can help hydrate skin, remove excess oils and help improve the appearance of your pores. They’re also an excellent way to help pull out impurities.
Our new favorite mask is by Sand & Sky, Australian Pink Clay.
- 91% saw results after 3 uses of exfoliating treatment
- 92% agree it’s the best mask of 2017
- 95% would repeat their purchase
We’ve written a WHOLE BUNCH of blogs on face masks – just take your pick by clicking here!
Goal #8 Address the skin ailment you’ve been putting off
This is a BIG one for me and it includes my damn keratosis pilaris! I’ve had those annoying chicken bumps on my arms and legs since I can remember. If you’ve got this ailment, then here’s a little more info on KP: KP is basically just dead skin cells that causes bumps. Your skin’s dead cell layer builds up around the hair follicles & plugs the entire follicle opening. Redness can develop around the hair follicles & even cause the hair to get trapped making them look just like pimples.
However, if this particular ailment isn’t one of your goals, what is YOUR GOAL!? What have you been putting off? Figure out why you’ve not made it a priority and then start prioritizing. The reason why I haven’t addressed my KP is because I’ve been discouraged by the 2 or 3 products I’ve tried already to combat it. But this year, I’m gonna get serious & see if I can really tackle the issue. I know what to do and what ingredients ‘should’ work, so I just gotta research more and finally commit.
I’ve got my eye on DERMAdoctor’s KP duty. We’ll see how it goes. I’ll keep ya in the loop.
