Ever since I was a child, I loved to make people feel and look beautiful.

Is Activated Charcoal Really The Bee’s Knees?

When I think of charcoal, I think of coal, which makes me think of my childhood fear of Santa leaving me coal in my stocking and I get all kinds of nervous. Sweating, increased heart rate, stomach palpitations,  you name it! Anyways… Coal, charcoal, activated charcoal specifically, has got the beauty industry going coo coo for coco puffs! You’ve probably seen folks with really black faces on TV, the internet & maybe even in your own home. Your daughter, son or even you are on this train. Activated charcoal is being added to cleansers, face masks & anything else for that matter due to its ability to absorb toxins and pollutants from your skin. But is it really all that it’s cracked up to be?

Activated charcoal, has been used in hospitals for years using to treat alcohol poisoning & drug overdoses. It is also used to whiten teeth, prevent cavities, aid gum disease, treat hangovers, remove mold, help with water filtration and even digestive cleansing.  Seemingly you can use activated charcoal for anything except lighting up your BBQ grill – you’ll have to use regular coal for that!

Activated charcoal attaches to toxins like a magnet to attract and absorb anything that’s bad in your body! So for alcohol poisoning, the activated charcoal would attach to the alcohol and absorb it! The same theory applies to your face… except in this case it would attract and absorb the dirt, oil and pollutants that cling to your skin.  When used on your skin, activated charcoal promises to help rid of:

  • Dark spots
  • Acne
  • Clogged pores
  • Bacterial infections on your skin
  • Bite sores & wounds

… and really anything that inhibits you from having a flawless complexion.

You can certainly buy the latest activated charcoal masks and cleansers on the market, but you can also make your own really easily –

RECIPE

Just mix a capsule of activated charcoal, 1/2 teaspoon of bentonite clay & 1 1/2 teaspoons of water. Remove the charcoal after 10 minutes.

Beware – Activated charcoal in its purest form is SUPER black and stains quickly and easily!
