I have to admit… Sometimes when new beauty tips and tricks come out, I’m like ‘yeah yeah, sure it’s good but will it really make a difference’. I think you guys can appreciate my cynicism because you’re only going to be getting the most helpful product & service recommendations from me & not that crap like ’50 top beauty products you need to buy’! So while it can be beneficial to us all, sometime it holds me back from trying a new technique because I don’t have high hopes – which wouldn’t be awesome.
In the case of double cleansing, I’ll be honest, I was skeptical. I mean for the love of God, do we really have to wash our face twice? What on earth could my one handy dandy cleanser be missing? The fact is, A LOT! For me, cleansers are not as exciting as moisturizers or the next best Retinol cream out there, so I tend not to think too much about it! But we really need to be thinking about it. Your skin can’t function properly at night if it’s unable to repair & regenerate itself because of dirt and grime left on your face. Plus if you’re double cleansing, the products you put on afterward will be just that much more effective. WINNING!
Whether you wear makeup regularly or are down for the more ‘au naturel’ look, it is recommended that you cleanse your face twice a day as you normally would & then DOUBLE cleanse for a more thorough clean at least 3 to 4 times a week. If you’re a heavy makeup wearer, I would recommend doing it every night before you go to bed. I made it a personal rule to double cleanse every time I had makeup on or have been out and about all day.
When it comes to double cleansing there’s actually an art to it! During the first step, you’ll want to use an oil-based cleanser to rid skin of surface dirt & residue from goodies like your sunscreen and moisturizer. And I promise, if you get a good cleanser, the oil won’t make you breakout. They are in fact much gentler on your skin than the conventional sulfate-based cleansers. Massage the oil cleanser into your beautiful skin on a dry face with your fingertips. Now you can just rinse off. It’s second cleanser time! You have just melted away the dirt and makeup from your face and are ready to apply a water-based cleanser that will now purify your skin! You’ll wash as you normally would, whether with your finger tips in a circular motion or your cleansing brush. Then it’s time to rinse and apply what seems the 75 layers of skincare products to your face! If I don’t look like a 45 year old when I’m 75 I’m gonna be pissed 😉 I use all these awesome skin cocktails every night – sure hope they’re worth it. Don’t worry, we’re aging together so I’ll be sure to let you know if it’s worth it.
Ok, now that I’ve gone off on a tangent, let’s bring it back in and discuss some great double cleansers to consider.
One of our lovely Cheeky readers loves Erno Laszlo Cleanser Kits – which may have to be my next purchase. They sell cleansers based on your skin type so just pick the one that’s right for you!

The product I use and like is called Banila Co. Clean It Zero (there are so many fakes out on the internet, so if you decide to go with this one, make sure to get it on Soko Glam’s site)
