Spring time is HERE! Or in Tucson… it’s practically summer. We’ll be at 95 this week. I guess we just skipped over spring and decided to do it up right 😉 But with spring comes bright outfits, bright flowers and sunshine! Speaking of bright outfits, I saw a FEWWWWW Easter outfits I wish I could unsee… that’s for another day. But what better way to celebrate the gorgeousness than with skin brightening masks! I love when a blog comes together like this!
Okay, so you’re ready to get your mask action on for the brightening effects, but did you know that brightening masks do much more than well, brighten? What do they do exactly you ask!? We’re on it!
First off, they fade dark spots!
Dark spots are from the good old sun and can also come with age! Certain ingredients in brightening masks, like licorice, azelaic acid (which is my JAM! It’s in my Aczone acne prescription) and vitamin C, can help fade the spots by inhibiting tyrosinase (new word for the day), an enzyme that amps up your pigment and gets melanin going all sorts of crazy on your skin. Other ingredients like kojic acid (this is also my JAMMM!!!! It’s in Groots & Cosmelan creams that I highly recommend for melasma) also help lighten the appearance of dark spots.
Get rid of your dry skin!
We all know I’m the driest human ever! SO prettyyyy! Skin gets dull because of the buildup of dead skin cells on our faces. No matter how much damn exfoliating and hydrating I do, I’ve got dry skin and I just gotta ‘woman up’ and be patient with it. Some brightening masks feature exfoliating ingredients, like retinoids, glycolic acid & other AHA/BHA’s, to help slough them away and unveil softer skin. So if you’ve got dry or dull skin brightening masks should be your go-to.
Hydration is where it’s at!
I feel so perky while writing this blog! Some brightening masks contain hydrating ingredients, like hyaluronic acid, which plumps skin and improves radiance! We LOVE hyaluronic acid here at Cheeky Complexion. It’s been a lifesaver and definitely helps with appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. So with just some hydration, you’ll see a dewier you.
So you’re like ‘yasss, I need these benefits’, but then you’re asking yourself, what ingredients should I be on the lookout for!? Here are a few we recommend –
- Glycolic acid
- Azelaic acid (my dermatologist, god love him… butchers the pronunciation of this every time….)
- Kojic acid
- Vitamin C
- Other BHA/AHA’s
- Hyaluronic acid
Now is the main event – the actual best face masks that brighten!

I spelled Papaya, Paypal at first…. online shopping will be the death of me. We adore this product! I use it 3 times a week and have been seeing AWESOME results with my dry skin – especially in my forehead area.
‘A pro-quality AHA/BHA mask that works as a “facial” to reveal greater clarity, improved skin texture and tone, and a more youthful-looking radiance.’
$10 for 13 sheet masks! A Cheeky got this for me for my birthday and I LOVE them so far! Hugs Kate! Here was me with it on and then headed out for happy hour. I think my skin looked really fresh and dewey afterwards despite that Aunt Flo is in town and I typically look like I got hit by a train, semi and mini bus all at one time.
‘Achieve a more vibrant, radiant complexion with White Marble Bright Face Mask from Erno Laszlo. When you want to reduce dryness, free radical damage, discoloration and dark circles, the dynamic antioxidants and jojoba in this brightening face mask are there to help.’
