For some weird reason, I’m excited this year for summer. I’m not sure why as I’m not your typical summer gal…. I don’t go out in the sun, I don’t like sand in my toes (it’s about as bad as walking in boots on the snow)…. It’s really flipping hot to go outside in Tucson (summer is our winter)…. I dunno. I sound like a boatload of fun don’t I!? But then again, I am excited for more boat drinks, wearing pretty dresses and flowy skirts, getting to wear more of my darling sun hats, getting some use out of what are probably expired at-home tanning lotions, exotic travel plans, grill outs, doing fancy things, enjoying the laid back mood of the summer, pretty dinner parties at our home outside, I think I’m gonna take up pottery again… I dunno, maybe it’s the time to revamp myself, but I can say I’m pretty pumped. Oh and lighter hair! Got some highlights yesterday and I feel like a new woman! Thanks, Arielle at Gadabout. What are you most excited for this summer?
It was just recently that I started up Pure Barre again! I did it when we lived in Tampa and really enjoyed it, but I’ve found my new love again and the studio I’m going to in Tucson is fabulous. Have you guys tried it? But while getting my bod in semi-better shape than where the hell I started, I have never ever ever been so aware of my skin. It’s been a while since I’ve worn tank tops and shorts outside. And you know the sun doesn’t let any imperfection go. So while my main focus lately has been on my INSANE paleness, I can honestly say I’m pretty pleased that I look this pale. However ladies & gents, don’t worry, not shaming those sun bunnies, but please do me a solid and wear a hat and sunscreen! But anyways, enough of a public service announcement, even though pale is a good thing in my eyes (for my skin tone), I am not the one who can pull off that whole pale look! You know what I mean… I’ve got black eyebrows, blue eyes (I first typed ‘blue hair’ haha), green undertones, dark hair (now with some highlights), but it’s not always super glamorous looking when I’m pale. So instead of being a slave to tanning lotions and sprays that can be hit or miss, I stumbled upon some body illuminators that were really big this year, that could really be FABULOUS in a pinch! Or heck, you don’t even have to be in a pinch! You can luminize yourself up, all summer long!
So I’m gonna take a lot of you back to the time when we used Bath & Body Works body shimmer sprays! If you aren’t familiar with those, they were basically fragrance sprays that had some sparkle to it that made you smell oh so delicious and also added this amazing glow. But I very vividly remember how tacky they were on your skin and god forbid you started to sweat. But hey, you did look pretty for a hot minute. Basically illuminators are similar in a way, but they’re more comparable to basic body lotions (or oils) with a hint of glimmer & shine! I think we could all get down on that! PLUS, these are GREAT for all skin tones. So regardless of if you’re white, green, black, yellow, purple… you can wear illuminators for glowing skin. Because not all skin types are suited for self tanners!
Here are some of our favorite illuminators we researched!
Rihanna (whose last name is actually Fenty btw), has done an OUTSTANDING job with her product lines… in my opinion. I especially love how many shades of makeup she created… however, she also does many great things for the body and that includes the Body Lava (she also has a new glitter fairy bomb thingy that’s got me shook – I’ve always wanted to use ‘shook’). This is soooo pretty to me! Two perfect shades for distinct skin tones and it adds such amazing sparkle and shine.
So this isn’t a moisturizer, but you’re to add the drops TO your moisturizer! So it’s a win, win! You can also use as a highlighter on your beautiful face.
So this guy is an oil, but uber hydrating like a traditional moisturizer. It’s been around for a while and the brand Moroccan Oil is known for their sun-kissed amazingness.

We researched about 20-30 illuminators and these really stuck out to me! Plus, they all had rave reviews. Do you have one you love? Let us know in the comments section below!
