I was at my favorite doctor’s office in all of Tucson (or maybe anywhere I’ve ever been before), Tucson Cosmetics seeing who I now call my ‘besties’ when I spotted a woman come into the waiting room. We were bullshitting about lord knows what and when I glanced up at the newcomer, I imagine my face looked rather surprised when I saw that she clearly had some ‘work’ done…. it was either a laser treatment or a chemical peel…. but she clearly was avoiding going out in public and wanted to hide her beautiful face!
While I was surprised, at the same point, we were in a skincare office and I know that Tucson Cosmetics offers all sorts of treatments that I haven’t even considered, my surprise turned to excitement when I realized this woman was on her way to even more beautiful skin – whatever the treatment may be.
When the sweet woman left the room, I asked, ‘What did she have done?’. Both Tucson Cosmetic ladies excitedly said, ‘Oh the C02 Laser, we can’t wait for the peeling to begin and for her to see the results’. YASSSS! Whenever there is excitement, count me in!
So I casually asked what is the Co2 Laser used for and would I benefit? That’s when Rebecca told me ALL about the Co2 Laser. While I had heard about it and know that it’s got some recovery time, I hadn’t spent a whole ton of time learning about the treatment. I thought, what better time than now!! It’s got me wanting to try it!!!!!
What is the Co2 Laser Treatment?
Using advanced laser technology, a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser for skin resurfacing precisely removes outer layers of damaged skin to reveal the underlying skin which is softer, smoother, and even younger looking. The CO2 Laser is used in the treatment of deeper lines, wrinkles, plus so much more!
How Does it Work?
A CO2 laser allows your cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist to perform skin resurfacing procedures that reduce or eliminate more pronounced lines and wrinkles than similar treatments. This is done by removing deeper layers of damaged skin and stimulating the regeneration of healthy skin underneath.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
- Are looking to get rid of deeper lines & wrinkles
- Have ‘troublesome’ undereye wrinkles
- Deal with age spots & melasma spots
- Have acne scarring
- Have poor skin texture
Honestly, I would recommend this to both young and the wise… it seems like a great treatment for a ‘clean slate’. But you must ABSOLUTELY find a reputable skincare provider for this as it can go WRONG fast!!
What is the Cost?
Around $750-$1,000 for a one-time treatment. That is typically all that is needed, unless you have severe acne scars or deeper wrinkles, then you may be advised to do multiple treatments. You can of course consider this as a treatment for up-keep and do it every so often to maintain your youth.
Price may vary. This is what Tucson Cosmetics mentioned as the price.
How Long Do Results Last?
Several years! As long as you stay out of the sun, wear sunscreen and throw on a hat!
What’s the Downtime Like?
So here’s why I used the snake as our main image.. there is going to be PLENTY of shedding of the dead skin! I read that the downtime is about 2 weeks, so it’s pretty lengthy. But after the first week, you should really be able to go out and about. You will experience ‘bronzing’ (skin darkening) and peeling that will become somewhat aggressive. 😉 The peeling will be all said and done with by week 1. The redness will settle down in about 3 to 4 weeks but it won’t be insane like week 1. You will see full results in 2-3 months.
- Do not pick, absolutely do not pick
- Stay out of the sun, wear a shit ton of sunscreen, hide out (and avoid it for 6 weeks at all costs)
- Use simple moisturizers
- Wash your face with only water for a while and then work into a simple cleanser
- Avoid makeup for the first 4 days
- Avoid physical exercise for 7 days
- A fan and ice pack will become your besties
- Ask your doc about a really great healing ‘after care’ lotion
Ask your doctor for very specific instructions to be safe.
