As we prepare to leave Tucson, AZ, it has got me thinking…. I’m moving from one of the sunniest places on earth to the official Sunshine State, AKA Florida. What’s funny is that Arizona has actually more sunny and partly sunny days than Florida. My husband told me that that is because Florida was founded first, so Arizona didn’t have a chance to become the official Sunshine State 😉 Makes sense… Glad he likes history. But anyways, thinking about that and thinking about what each state has to offer, I was remembering back to how Arizona is known as the ‘Copper State’! While we certainly do see a lot of copper in its element – pun intended. Meaning, we see it in jewelry and in home decor. I can’t say that I know too much about copper.
So as I decided to partake in some state pride before be bounced, the references to copper made me think about how it relates to skincare. I mean, it is an element right, so it certainly could be used as an ingredient to help beautify us. I mean, why not right? We have oxygen facials on the regular. Anything is possible!
As I had the pleasure of diving in, I realized we were on to something! And it’s been around for thousands of years, dating back to the Egyptians & was actually heralded as the ‘fountain of youth’. WINNING! Today, science has been able to support the Egyptians (which makes me think to sing, ‘walk like an Egyptian…’) love for copper in skincare and we’re so excited to share our research with you.
What is Copper in Skincare
I found that copper is naturally present in our bods. It is in peptide form & it helps to keep collagen and elastin linked up. In short, copper is responsible for younger, plumper & more glowing skin! Like with collagen, our bodies produce less copper as we mature, so by reintroducing copper back into our complexions through skincare, it can in theory help boost our collagen & elastin levels! The copper in skincare products are typically developed in a lab to mirror our body’s natural peptides, found in our blood. < See, that wasn’t so bad. I dunno about you but when it comes to the Periodic Table of Elements, I immediately get nervous…..
Not only does copper help to reinvigorate our complexions, it has a host of other amazing benefits as well:
- Control shine
- Minimize breakouts
- Offer antioxidants
- Healing properties
- Skin thickness
- Ward off pollution
- Keep skin stress at bay
- Support skin struggling with DNA damage
- Hair growth (so my hairy-faced friends, consider this for your eyelash serum or read the ingredient list before going wild)
Step aside US pennies. Copper used in skincare officially trumps your main role in life 😉 Was that another pun!? A Presidential one at that (Oh and politics scare the shit out of me, so puns is about as far as I go in regards to that…)! Killing it today!
When incorporating copper into your skincare routine, it is often liked for it’s ‘gentle on the skin’ effects, so most skin types can get down with it.
We did find some amazing products that contain copper that we wanted to share with you if any of the above benefits make you smile!
