Since we’re on a quest to become a Francophile (the art of being obsessed with all things French), I thought what better way to start our new Franco’FILES’ series than by learning how red wine can help give us that much needed glow! The French are known for their over consumption of red wine (& endless supply of cigarettes ironically enough), which I went out and bought this past weekend to join the club. I probably won’t over consume per say, but I just love the idea of getting much added benefits from a drink that makes you giggle – it’s not as boring as water! Cause water is SO BORING! Unless it’s bubbly, which apparently is very French too! I was French before I even meant to be 😉
So I’ll wait while you pour a glass and then we’ll dive right in!…………… Okay great you’re back! Let’s learn something shall we!?
Red Wine Helps You Age Better
Red wine, plain and simple helps prevent premature aging. Red wine is packed with all things good, like antioxidants which include flavonoid, resveratrol and tannin that all work together to restore your skin’s collagen and elastic fibers. In addition to that, it’s true, red wine gives a boost to sagging skin, even reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
Wanna get into a red wine facial tonight!? Bold Sky has you covered!
Mix together 1 egg white, 4 tablespoons of red wine, 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of sugar cane powder. Apply this face pack on to your face and neck and gently massage. Leave it on for about 10 minutes on your face and then wash it off with warm water
Can Red Wine Really Lighten Your Skin Tone?
So in my research, I read that red wine can actually help lighten your skin tone! ‘Polyphenols can be useful as a lightening agent by inhibiting tyrosinase, the enzyme that makes melanin, or skin pigment’ says Dermatologist Emily Mintz. FRICKING WINNING! I almost still don’t believe this, but of course it makes scientific sense! This makes me happy!
Red Wine Helps You Rid of Acne
Due to its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, applying red wine topically on the face can help to clear the pores, fights acne and prevents even future breakouts. (I’ve read differing views on this! One study was published saying it is perfect to dab onto acne, but then I read another article & the interviewer referenced ‘some crazy blogger who came up with it’. So while alcohol can dry out your skin, I don’t see why it would really cause any damage or worsening of the acne – it’s not like it’s the bad alcohol right!?) Do your research on this one!
Red Wine Helps Your Skin Glow
Red wine contains polyphenols that help transform even the dullest of complexions!
Red Wine Protects Your Skin Against Free Radicals
Resveratrol protects against free radicals, which are a big contributor to fine lines and wrinkles.
Red Wine Can Protect You Against Sun Damage
Red wine is very rich in amino acids which boost skin renewal and fight the harmful rays of the sun to prevent sun damage. Let’s not forget our sunscreen though!
