As I was singing in the shower the other day…. My number 1 shower song to sing is probably ‘At Last’ by Etta James… I would actually say it’s my favorite song to sing in AND out of the shower. But as I was belting tunes and trying my best to not get irritated at the skylight that’s in the shower – I mean how much sunlight can one girl take… I need a reprieve. But anyways, as I was getting my hair prepped for battle (aka, trying to untangle it due to my excessive teasing) I noticed that poobear got a new Old Spice body wash… Intrigued, I went for a sniff when I noticed the name of it… ‘Liquid Courage’. I mean for the love of all things holy. I find it a little corny first off, but then I thought to myself, ‘God forbid I use that or I’ll be sprouting huge biceps’. It was just too manly for me. But it goes both ways… I cannot stand how everything for women is PINK. Sure, pink is a nice color, but why does everything have to be like Elle Woods style. And I actually LOVE Elle Woods (Legally Blonde), but WHEW! – ‘What? Like it’s hard!’
So anyways, that got me thinking… why does our skincare even have to be tailored like that? While not all skincare bottles are pink in color nor are all of them titled ‘Liquid Courage’, there tend to be few and far between that are generally marketed towards all genders. I mean, when I brought up the Liquid Courage to Josh even he had a good laugh (all dude, military guy!) and said ‘Why don’t they just call it like Old Spice Formula #9’…. Smart cookie. He’s onto something.
Plus, no longer is skincare just a woman’s world. It’s absolutely, 100% positively acceptable for men to take care of their skin too. That’s why we’re rooting you on here at Cheeky Complexion. Makes me happy. As the “traditional” skin care customer is evolving, the skin care industry is evolving right along with it and, as a result, gender-neutral skin care brands are on the rise. Gender-neutral skin care are what Cheeky considers to be brands and products that cater equally to both men and women—whether through their marketing, packaging and even how they’re formulated.
While there are some minor differences in male and female skin (i.e. men have a thicker skin and more active sebaceous glands (oily skin); women’s skin tends to be drier), there’s no real reason that men and women can’t use the same skin care products.
