I would say since about high school, I’ve dealt with water retention issues in my face! I don’t have a high salt diet, alcohol intake is low & I’m not on any sort of medications to cause this but it’s always something I’ve had. I do have a very low vitamin B deficiency (I was taking B12 shots for a while) that may have something to do with it, but even the shots weren’t taking away the water retention. In fact, when I wake up on an occasional bloat-free day, I often get asked if I’ve lost weight – I haven’t… so it’s sort of been a curse for me.
Even though these are champagne problems, could be a lot worse, it’s something that has bothered me. When I went to acupuncture the other day, I brought this problem up and had one of the most life-changing acupuncture sessions to date. If you’ve had restless leg syndrome symptoms before… jittery, uncomfortable, tingling sensations, imagine that but allover your entire body. Needless to say it was a painstaking 30 minute acupuncture session but I realized how beneficial it was! And what did I know, the bloat was gone!
But anyways.. stay with me.. I promise I’ll be done talking about myself here in a second. So I referenced a jade rolling device in one of my recent blogs & I do have one similar but it’s a jade scraping tool, not the rolling jade tool that I recommended. So since I have no self-control when it comes to online shopping carts, I thought… ‘I hadn’t been impressed with my jade SCRAPING tool, I should try out a jade ROLLING tool!’ And MY GOD! I wake up bloat free almost every day since I’ve been using it. I’m not quite sure why I started off with a jade scraping tool to begin with because I’ve known how beneficial the rolling devices are, but I guess I found one that was cheaper & thought it would do the same amazingness!
Alright… so bringing this all together now! So when I was thinking about my water retention and bloating when writing my Herbivore Botanicals blog and I thought… ‘Hmmm, wonder if my lymph nodes are having a hard time draining’!?!?! I think my guess was right based on how well my face is doing with twice daily jade rolling!
Even if you don’t suffer from water retention, jade rolling has a TON of issues it targets, such as:
- Fine lines
- Face bloat
- Lymphatic drainage
- Under eye bags
- Poor blood circulation
- Dull complexion
- Excessive tension
- Sinus congestion
- Plus more!
So if you ‘suffer’ from any of these issues, jade rolling is possibly the BEST thing ever! As I think about it, I haven’t had any new pimples appear since doing jade rolling, my bloat-ness is definitely gone, I look brighter, my face isn’t as sore feeling (that can probably be most attributed to my new mouth guard I sleep with… say nothing) and I definitely am not waking up with under eye bags! You’re basically massaging the bad stuff from your face.
How do you practice jade rolling? It’s easy!
Step 1: Cleanse your face
Optional: Exfoliate & add an oil or serum on top (this is not always necessary because we recommend doing jade rolling twice a day and if you exfoliated that much your face would fall of)
Step 2: Start rolling
#CheekyConfidential I did just read today that you should start out in the neck area to loosen any congestion down there so the drainage can easily make it’s way down when it comes time to rolling your face – I think I would start with the neck and then end with the neck, but that’s just me.
For the BEST instruction possible, it’s probably easiest to learn through a great video!
When it comes to jade rolling, 2-3 times a day for 3-10 minutes is great!
We recommend keeping your jade roller in the fridge or freezer… this helps mainly with swelling and the under eye area. I don’t do this because I have a thing with things that are either too cold or too hot when it comes to my face, but I did see that either way works just fine.
