For the rest of my life, I will remember how my friend Jenni in high school who would always get a big old zit in the very middle of her chin, to which she named it Mt. Saint Helen – God love her but it was a prominent one so I get why she named it that ;-). She had beautiful clear skin, but when she did get a blemish, it was always in that same spot.
And it’s not just Jenni who had a Mt. Saint Helen in her life! It happens to the best of us, and apparently it’s not an uncommon occurrence. In fact, many folks find that they will get the blemish in the exact same spot within weeks & some even days.
But what has blown my mind during my research of all of this is that doctors and dermatologists are not sure why this happens! I feel like they know everything! Gah! However, they do have one explanation that makes sense to us –
Is that there are a cluster of oil producing glands & bacteria that live and thrive in that spot on yo face and constantly cause inflammation!
So in my brain, the best ways to stop this annoying cycle of Mt. Saint Helens in your life, is to….
1. Not pick the zit and leave it alone.
2. Not over focus on it – so don’t dry the hell out of with products, etc… let it ‘vulcanize’ naturally (see what I did there)
3. Not develop poor cleansing habits – consider double cleansing!
So if you’re one of those folks in a Mt. Saint Helen cycle, then now would be a good time to making sure you’re using the right cleansers & that you’re incorporating a good retinoid into your skin regime. Below are some of my favorite recommendations for those with acne-prone skin.
