I don’t know about you, but I personally LOVE the idea of developing a sleep routine based on rituals that I can use night after night. Just recently, I got one of those plush robes from an actual hotel, that I’ve practically sown myself into it since I’m in it so much (Josh has a matching one too – we look insane, but it’s so darn comfortable)! And it doesn’t stop there! Gah, are we surprised tho!?
I use one of those amazing neck warmers from Elizabeth Arden (there isn’t an online link… I think you gotta go into one of their spas to get one, but hell any neck warmer will do). I heat that sucker up for 2.5 minutes and wear for at least an hour! It calms me down, soothes my ever aching neck (I pulled it last night, yet again), and it’s just an amazing ritual to keep up with in the winter months.
I also enjoying wearing my slippers that my parents got me for Christmas last year (Josh has a matching men’s pair, like a boss)! I try to put on a foot scrub or lotion and some great spa socks so I’m not only pampering my feet, but I’m out of those treacherous heels or boring gym shoes! It’s a great way to wind down and relax! Plus you wake up with soft feet!
During the winter months especially, I always heat up a pot of tea and enjoy that before going to bed! I LOVE Matcha green tea because of all it’s amazing beauty benefits. But just about any herbal tea or non-caffeinated tea will do. My mom would always encourage us to have warm tea or milk before heading to bed when we were rug rats, but it wasn’t until I got to Arizona, where I realized how wonderful tea is! It is so nice to enjoy the calm, serene night with a nice cup of tea with honey and lemon. (We lived in Tampa before & that was the loudest condo we’ve ever lived in, in our lives – aka, not relaxing)
I’m actually drinking some Matcha green tea as I feel a cold of some kind coming on! This tea is GREAT for impeding sickness too!
I make sure that I don’t ever skip out on my ‘right before bed’ routine which includes lathering on essential oils (always lavender, sometimes eucalyptus, depends on my allergies, and always this new stress oil my friend got me from Aveda), putting on my favorite lip treatment, and softening my hands with my nightstand hand lotion. I get into bed feeling accomplished!
While those are some great ways that I decompress, there are even more ways for you to really get into whole meaning of ‘beauty sleep’! I mean, it’s not just for princesses. But you’re a princess or prince in our minds! It’s all about developing a ritual for yourself that helps you re-charge & take care of yourself. There is nothing wrong with you spending a little me time! And what perfect way to do it than by taking an hour or so before bed when the house is generally quiet, and just focusing on YOU! Plus, all these ideas are things you can do WHILE you sleep! Even better! We are all short on time right!?
For all my side sleepers out there (including me!!!)! This one is for you! A reusable medical-grade silicone chest pad that you can use up to 30 times to help get rid of and prevent those unwanted décolletage wrinkles while you sleep! Every morning I wake up with a wrinkly chest area, so this might have to be in my future.
I LOVE the idea of silk pillows! I unfortunately have a special relationship with my pillow because it is unbelievably comfortable, but for those of you who are looking to have an amazing night sleep all while reducing wrinkles, then silk pillows are for YOU!
I sleep with an eye mask, but I only use it when Josh is up late reading and the light bothers me. I typically don’t wake up with it but I really like sleep masks! I have a girlfriend who wears one every night and she swears by it! It helps the room be completely dark and gives her a perfect night’s sleep! Not only does it help you sleep better, but silk eye masks have a TON of beauty benefits too –
- Helps to reduce signs of friction, stretching and tugging on delicate facial skin
- Silk fibers promote longevity of facial products
- Reduces pressure on delicate eye area
- Prevents visibly signs of fatigue
- Promotes a restful night’s sleep
- Recommended by dermatologists, plastic surgeons, hairdressers and beauty experts
