Ever since I was a child, I loved to make people feel and look beautiful.

Promising Alternatives to Retinols

Retinol is very widely considered the gold standard for treating a royal ton of skin-care issues, such as the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, blackheads and acne. But it can come with considerable downsides!

I, myself, have had a love/hate relationship with retinols! I’ve been using either Tretinoin, or SkinMedica Retinol since I’ve been 18. Though it’s been off and on and that’s because it can be so drying to my skin. As many of my favorite Cheeky’s know, we suffer from dry skin and it can be easily irritated… much like how people irritate me 😉 Not you guys of course! But my skin gets irritated by most things.

Retinol can be harsh, leading to irritation, flaking skin, peeling, and redness. That’s why it comes with a list of warnings of what issues it can cause. However, retinols have been proven to be hands down, the best treatment for our skin.

Retinol is a technical name for vitamin A with over 40 years of established research that shows its amazing effects on your skin. When skin’s appearance is damaged by the environment, aging, loss of collagen (firmness), retinol steps in to minimize those concerns. Retinol’s goal is to turn around the condition of your skin and deliver radiant results. Retinol attaches to your skin cells and convinces it to behave like younger, healthy skin. Retinol also acts as an antioxidant which can prevent free radicals and promote collagen production.

So while it can be amazing for our skin, not everybody would or can appreciate it! That’s why it’s important to consider alternatives to it that will give you results but without the harsh dryness and irritation that you may experience.

A few such alternates exist already like retinylaldehyde (like what’s in this product!), retinyl palmitate, or Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate. Or they can include plant-based ingredients with retinol-like activity, like bakuchiol. Had to look this guy up… Bakuchiol is a natural alternative to retinol— fights all major signs of aging and more. It targets fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots, visibly firms, and reduces the look of pores. The biggest benefit of considering bakuchiol over lab created retinol-alternatives (that’s a mouthful) is that it’s known to be far less harsh on the skin! Which is a SUPER WIN!

So if an irritation-free, retinoid-like product interests the heck out of  you, then below are our favorite products on the market that could find!
