I forget when it was, but I believe in late junior high or early high school I had a very odd fascination with oil blotters. You know, those little thin paper-like thingy’s that you take to your T-zone and it sops up all the oil from your face? Yes yes, you got it! Well anyways, I LOVED THEM and I had ABSOLUTELY zero need for them because my skin has always been as dry as the Tucson desert. Well that’s a little exaggerated (per usual), but I certainly didn’t need those wipes. I was dealing with other issues 😉 However, my brother has nice and beautiful skin with a little oiliness and he was using those oil blotters back in his day. I think that’s who I must have been stealing those from… Sorry, Eric! And I just thought they were the coolest darn things ever made.
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve taken a look at oil blotters since the only oil I would be sopping up on my face would be the one I bought and purposely put on my face. So it’s not been on my mind as of late, but because all us Cheeky’s are dealing with different skin ‘issues’ for lack of a better word, I thought we could take a second look. I honestly thought they were kind of a fad as you really don’t see them in stores or online… or maybe that’s just because I’ve not been looking for them. It’s like when you buy a new car and all the sudden you see your car EVERYWHERE, that’s how I imagine it will be when I get done writing about these oil blotters 😉 Side note: Did you know that it’s actually a real phenomenon called the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon? My dumbass old co-worker who shall remain nameless actually told me about this! God, it often feels so good to call him a dumbass! I digress. Anyways!
What is an oil blotting sheet?
Designed for on-the-go touch-ups, portable oil blotting sheets are great for oily, combination skin and even normal skin. They go to work by soaking up excess oil and removing shine from the face ideally without smudging makeup (for the Cheeky gals) or leaving behind powder.
#CheekyConfidential Use these bad boys to blot your phone – it works much better than wiping it with a paper towel. Plus it gets all that gross grease off your lifeline!
One important thing to note, it is possible for you to go overboard with oil blotting sheets because your skin does indeed need oil, so if you strip your skin of too much oil, your skin goes into protection mode by making even more oil. It also is crucial that these are for ‘touch ups’ and it’s best to find out the ‘issue’ for excess oil production. Because in reality, you can actually be pressing not only oil in the skin that’s not absorbed by the sheet, but you can also be pushing in dirt, grime and makeup, so moderation is key here. You ain’t gonna be getting rid of acne with these guys – you’re just solely trying to control oil production or at least how it appears on your beautiful face.
How to use oil blotting sheets:
- Pull out a sheet from the ‘dispenser’
- Press a sheet firmly but gently against the shiny areas of your face, starting with your T-zone (areas of the nose, chin, and forehead).
- Leave the blotting paper against your skin for a few seconds while the sheet absorbs the oil.
- Don’t rub or move the paper across your skin to avoid removing makeup and to prevent ‘spreading’ the oil. Pull away from face when finished.
- Use a new sheet on other areas of your face as necessary. We wouldn’t recommend using it on your forehead and then casually blotting your cheeks. Grab a new one!
- Repeat the process as ‘necessary’.
