Mother’s Day is around the corner! It’s May 13th for those of you who haven’t quite gotten your thoughts together on how you’re going to be celebrating that special mother figure in your life. And for those of who you this year who don’t have that special someone in your life, know that we are thinking of you and sending you lots of love, as I personally cannot imagine a day without my mom. Also, if you are not close with your mom, we hope that you have found someone who can lift you up when you’re down and is there for you when you need it most.
Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908, when a woman named Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother at St. Andrew’s Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia. The Church now holds the International Mother’s Day Shrine. Jarvis started her campaign to make Mother’s Day a recognized holiday when she wanted to honor her own mother who had died in 1905. She wanted to do this because she believed a mother is the ”person who has done more for you than anyone in the world’. In 1908, Mother’s Day was initially rejected by congress saying that they’d have to have Mother-in-law day too – oh congress and their sense of humor….. However, it wasn’t until 1914 that Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating Mother’s Day, held on the second Sunday in May, as a national holiday in honor of mother’s. Thank you Mr. Wilson! Ms. Jarvis was unfortunately mighty disappointed in the company, Hallmark when she believed that they had misinterpreted and exploited the ideas of Mother’s Day so she decided to sue them – I guess that’s where we get the whole notion of ‘a Hallmark holiday’ for days like ‘Sweetest Day’ 😉 She also had a few scuffles with some other organizations, flowers (apparently she didn’t like carnations as the official flower) , etc. but in the end, we are so glad she fought so hard to recognize her own mother. Did you know the history of Mother’s Day? We didn’t and are so glad we looked it up!
Mother’s Day to us is a very special time to celebrate our own mom, Camille! Not only did she sacrifice her career and dignity to raise us kids, she was there for us every step of the way and hasn’t stopped since. I won’t get all sappy because that may embarrass her, but she is truly one of a kind and the most special woman that I know. She is truly irreplaceable and I am so so lucky to have her as my mom. From changing my diapers, to cheering me on at ballet, to freezing her ass off at track meets, to talking me off a ledge during chaotic times, to listening to me when I needed a friend, to supporting me no matter what… she’s truly a rockstar of a woman and we are looking so forward to celebrating her amazingness. Thank you mom!

Tatcha has really been stepping their game up as of late! Plus, I absolutely adore their packaging. So bright and ‘smooth’… LOL! Sounds weird, but you can see what I mean.
