Ever since I was a child, I loved to make people feel and look beautiful.

Vegan Skincare Brands Cheeky’s Should Know About

The other day at work, I do SEO (search engine optimization) and internet marketing in my other life and we were talking to a new client and somehow ‘hobbies’ or something or other came up. I of course mentioned Cheeky and he said he remembered seeing that on my LinkedIn account. This fella, Bart, was so darling and started asking ALLLL these questions about what Cheeky stood for, what all we focused on, etc., etc. It warmed my heart. But as he was seemingly going on and on with excitement for my blog, he mentioned that his wife is into the whole organic skincare realm. So as he was talking, I thought about how organic can mean SO MANY THINGS these days and what could Cheeky write about that falls under this realm. After we hung up and I had a chance to think on it, I realized that we haven’t focused too much on vegan skincare, which to me, falls in line with the whole organic bit. While Cheeky was a vegetarian for over 11 years, I’ve since joined the carnivores of the world, I still have a special place in my heart for the whole vegetarian, vegan lifestyle.

If this is something that you’re working towards or maybe you already are on the vegan train, this blog can help you get where you need to be. Without further adieu, let’s dive in to vegan skincare & some of our favorite vegan skincare brands and what makes them so wonderfully vegan.

Disclaimer: I am absolutely no expert in the vegan skincare realm and actually had a terrible time researching because I’m just wayyyyy too sensitive. But it’s pretty simple & we did to our research for the BEST brands for you to consider, so that may be your biggest takeaway in this booger.

What is Vegan Skincare?

Vegan-friendly skincare basically eliminates all animal-derived ingredients. Or think of vegan skincare as being made from plants and minerals as well as safe synthetic ingredients.

When on the hunt for Vegan skincare, there are several stamps of approval that you can look for. I’m sure this isn’t the full list, but these seemed to be the most poop-ular as this family likes to say (instead of popular).

  1. PETA offers two stamps: ‘cruelty-free’ and ‘vegan’
  2. Vegan Action or Vegan Awareness Foundation
  3. The Vegan Society
  4. Sephora ‘Clean at Sephora’

Common Skincare Products Derived From Animal-Derived Ingredients

If you’re looking to cleanup your skincare cabinet and have more animal-friendly products, here are common ingredients derived from animals:

  • Beeswax

  • Keratin
  • Hyaluronic acid
  • Squalene
  • Lanolin
  • Stearic acid
  • Elastin
  • Honey

Please note that some of these ingredients can be made out of other materials than what is found in animals, but this is a simple list you can refer to just in case.

These brands strive to create vegan skincare products, they do have a product or two in theirs line that aren’t. I did think this would be a good list to include if you’re willing to pick through some products to get to the vegan ones.

  • The Ordinary
  • Josie Maran
  • Ole Henrikson
  • No B.S.
  • Dr. Dennis Gross
