(And what we still want to try!)
Whew! I was just thinking this morning about how many products & treatments we’ve been trying as of late, especially in 2018. Most of the time, we reference our latest obsession and how it’s going in one way or another whether it’s on the blog or social media, but there hasn’t been a time where we really put all our favorites, least favorites & wish list items all in one spot. So today is the DAY!
As many of you have been on this journey with us for quite a while now, I would LOVE to hear what has worked for you, what you could do without and what you’re looking to try next.
Until then, here’s our list – I couldn’t have been more excited to do this blog. It took quite a bit of time to go through everything, but I’m so glad we did! It’s been a really fun year of trying, learning & this all makes me so motivated for what’s to come.
What Can Stay
‘The Jade Facial Roller is an incredible tool for inner and outer beauty. Facial rolling is relaxing and de-stressing. It’s been a beauty ritual since ancient times in China, dating all the way back to the 7th century. Physically, it helps to firm the look of skin through gentle massage. It also aids in supporting the lymphatic system, the body’s main major detoxification system. Metaphysically, jade brings peace and harmony, and is known to help reduce stress.’
‘SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic features a synergistic antioxidant combination of ferulic acid and pure vitamins C and E to enhance your skin’s protection against environmental damage caused by free radicals. This SkinCeuticals vitamin C serum helps neutralize free radicals induced by UVA/UVB, infrared radiation (IRA) and ozone pollution (O3). In addition to antioxidant protective benefits, C E Ferulic improves signs of aging and photodamage to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles while firming and brightening your complexion.’
This is my latest addition as I’ve been off the retinoid train for a while – been focusing on some other elements of my skin. But now that I’m back, I’ll consider this a keeper.
‘Snail Secretion Filtrate (SSF) has been used for centuries to help repair and maintain skin. It is filled with hyaluronic and glycolic acid, glycoprotein enzymes, antimicrobial peptides, and other great nutrients. We’ve also added natural extracts to help lock in moisture and increase elasticity. It is the most comprehensive solution to recharge your skin with nature’s best ingredients.’
If you’re looking for a sheet mask that offers a variety of benefits, this set of 16 masks is there when you need it, regardless of the skin issue at hand. I will use ‘Pearl’ mask when I’m on my cycle and my melasma is shining through more (and that’s a real thing, my derm confirmed that) or I’ll use the ‘White Collagen’ mask when I need some brightening & plumping. There’s a mask for everything.
‘Soothing 24k gold, plumping collagen, hydrating hyaluronic acid, refreshing vitamin c serum, anti aging seaweed polysaccharides, brightening liquorice extract, moisturising oat peptide and calming rose essential oil. Free from parabens and alcohol.’
‘Makeup remover towelettes work to dissolve all traces of dirt, oil and makeup on skin, for superior cleansing and makeup removing power at your fingertips.’ I use this in my double cleansing routine now and I love it! I’ll use this at the end of the day before I physically wash my face with my Clarisonic & water. Really great change to my regime. Skin feels a lot cleaner but also really moisturized.
GloPro’s patented technology stimulates skin’s natural healing response to induce micro-rejuvenation deep within the skin. As MicroTips™ pass over the skin, the rejuvenation process begins immediately as cells respond to imperceptible microchannels by restoring volume from the inside out. Red LED light function and VibroTactile Stimulation™ work synergistically to enhance regenerative skin benefits. The result is a visibly firmer, smoother, younger-looking appearance. Used alone or as a companion to your favorite serums and creams, this youth-promoting tool magnifies the benefits of key anti-aging ingredients making absorption easier while enhancing overall skincare performance.
I use a prescribed Aczone medication to handle my lovely cystic acne. It has been a lifesaver. Would highly recommend anyone who has cystic acne to go on this. Head on over to the derm.
I personally use this on TOP of my Neutrogena sunscreen shown below & as a maintenance tool. It can be used on the go and even over makeup, so it’s a big winner in my book.
LIFE changer! This arid dry has me SHOOK! And my poobears knuckles have been so dry & cracked and he’s been soooo pleased with the improvements since we’ve been using this. I would highly recommend using a humidifier, especially in the winter time, regardless of where you live.
Another goody that I really think has helped my melasma stay at bay. I’ve been taking it for 4 months now and I haven’t had any spots on my face that have gotten worse.
I used to use the Noni Oil and while I like that, this argan oil seems to be JUST a little more hydrating, so I’m sticking with this guy! Plus, it seems to soak in well enough that I can wear it during the day which is uber helpful with my dry skin. Especially on mornings after I use the GloPro.

What Can Go
When it comes to the items that can go…. I have to say that most of these items I would still recommend, but they just weren’t for ME. So don’t necessarily discount these from your list, especially if you have a different skin type than mwah. So take these with a grain of salt because I do still support these recommendations in some capacity. << I mean this… they’re still really great.
This would be REALLY good for oily skin! I really like it but find that it can be somewhat drying if I’m not careful.
I REALLY like this one too, but there was a part of me that believes this made my pores appear larger in the morning. So ever since I ran out, I can’t say that I miss it – and ironically, my pores aren’t so bad in the morning. This may be better for more mature skin.
Though I do like this exfoliator, I prefer the Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel by them instead, the one I marked above (and I REALLY like that one!)
This is another one that I REALLY, really like… but I find that I’m not ‘needing’ it as much as I used to. With my recent re-addition of my Tretinoin & GloPro from up above, I find myself avoiding this so I don’t get too dry. I will continue to use, but I’ve replaced it for the most part.
For a while, I was really obsessed with this, but I have found that I’ve been able to manage my dry skin. I would still do it again, but not necessarily for the price… I think it was around $250… not worth it to me at this time.
This has been another one I highly recommend to people, but I think it has exasperated my pores. I tend to use the basic Cetaphil lotion more than I do this one. I have recently run out of my Elemis Pro-collagen Cream and I’m going to try SkinCeutical’s Lipid Restore Cream below.
Now that I’ve been using the SkinCeuticals’ C E + Ferulic, I find myself needing this less and less, though I do still use it some mornings. It’s REALLY good for the price, but if you’re wanting to splurge, I would recommend the SkinCeuticals product in this case. I find that the vitamin C and stability of the other ingredients in the SkinCeuticals’ product works far better for my melasma.
Though I’ve gone through 3 tubes of this, I find that I’m needing less daily coverage & haven’t gotten a new tube as of late. I’d still recommend for those women or men who want a makeup free ‘look’ for daily wear.
This didn’t scream, ‘Jesus in a bottle’ to me. I wouldn’t use again I don’t think! Didn’t see any real changes after several months. I actually found that the pH balance of my skin wasn’t as ‘off’ as I thought it was and this product is mainly used to do that. So it just wasn’t for me, though it could really be good for you.
What I Still Want to Try…
Because who doesn’t have a wish list!? Am I right!??!
This is actually in the mail as I type. YASSS! Highly recommended by another Cheeky. She said it pairs well with SkinCeuticals’ CE Ferulic that I’ve recommended above.
This has been on my list for a while and I’m really not sure why I haven’t gotten it yet. Super affordable and supposed to be a great facial substitute when ya can’t make it into a professional.
Don’t worry fellas, there’s a nice blue one there too! When we move to our next Air Force base, I plan to do a little upgrading in my skincare storage department, so I have been holding off on this purchase until then. I want to see what sort of space I’ll have. Who knows, maybe Cheeky will get their own space and we can go for a larger one. YAY!
