It’s nearly impossible to believe that 2018 is coming to an end. I dunno about you but Thanksgiving & the Christmas season flew by. I’m actually appalled that it’s almost Christmas in a few days! Where did the time go? I have not listened to near enough Christmas music and I’ve been REALLY slacking on my dumb Hallmark movie watching. I also haven’t decorated at all and Carole on our street is the only one carrying us with her outdoor decorations. I think that’s one of the weird things when you grow up in a cold environment like Cincinnati during the winter… you expect to have gray skies and a dusting of snow. Instead it’s sunny out & I’d say semi-warm here in Tucson. It kinda messes with your mind.
But with 2018 coming to a close that often means it’s time to look to the year ahead. I personally don’t prefer to reflect much on the year that has passed (I already lived it!!) but rather focus on the upcoming days and what awesomeness will take place! I’m a big planner & the future makes me so happy! With lots of exciting things on Cheeky’s personal & professional agenda, we’ve been especially attuned to some exciting things that will be going on in the skincare realm as well. Because let’s get real, that’s why you’re here.
Anytime that someone mentions ‘trending’ I get wayyyyyy too excited! I mean just the other day, an online store for my sister-in-law sent an email out with a new dress called ‘Camille’. My mom’s name! We were SO excited to hear her name was ‘trending’! It’s the little things. But with the skincare industry EVER CHANGING, it’s important that Cheeky is up to date and well aware of what professionals and publications alike are predicting in the year ahead.
If you have any predictions, be sure to let us know! Otherwise, here are our findings. We can’t forget to check back later in 2019 to see how many of these goodies came into fruition. Remind us please??!!
Skincare will become ‘easier’
I think it’s safe to say that the makeup industry has been focusing on more ‘natural looks’ this year so we can expect skincare to follow suit. At least that’s what we’re seeing. Folks are predicting that we’ll be less about the multi-step routines and the focus will be more on cleansing, toning and moisturizing.
Smart beauty devices will get smarter & more popular
I will say I’ve certainly seen this trend in 2018 and can most definitely see it continue to trend in the years ahead. With most things, tech is becoming a big player in the skincare realm. I mean just the other day, my husband poobear said ‘Whoah babe, another new device!?’ Despite the fact that I felt there was some judgement behind his tone ;-), it’s true! It was yet another new technology and we were SO DANG excited.
Folks will focus on sun protection more
We’ve seen the whole sun protection bit change over all our lifetimes and the importance of sun protection and the risk of cancers has become really important to folks as of late. And it will continue to be very important in the years to come. No more of this ‘lather it up with baby oil’ mentality. We’ll be seeing better & cleaner sunscreens that will protect us from the sun’s harmful rays!
Beauty supplements will become more popular
I personally think this area is really hit or miss and I haven’t found a whole lot of supplements that have really wowed me. What say you!? Thanks to more readily available research and data about how our skin is impacted by our diet, beauty supplements will see a big old uptick in sales in 2019.
#CheekyConfidential I learned from my doctor one time that taking zinc supplements helps your filler & Botox last longer!
With any vitamin regime, please consult your docs!
Clean & honest beauty is what’s up
This is definitely an area of the skincare industry we’ve seen change over just the last couple years. Everywhere we turn, there are more and more organic brands coming out with everything-free products. As a culture, we really seem to be most focused on what we’re putting in our bodies & the same idea holds true for what we put ON our bods.
Professional skincare will get a boost
Folks are saying that people will begin to realize that products can only take our skin so far and they will begin to rely and trust more in professional treatments performed at a doctor’s or esthetician’s office. That makes me happy since I’m going to be enrolling in medical esthetician school in a few months! (MY DREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Tweak-ments are going to win in the end
No longer will we be seeing oversized butts & lips heading into 2019. Though, hey, if that’s yo thing, get after it! Doesn’t matter to us what makes you feel pretty but professionals and trusted folks in the industry are saying that the more natural look will be in. These tweak-ments are going to highlight the person’s natural look & just give them an extra boost.
Body contouring will see an uptick
This is one I am surprised is not more popular, but we are seeing major gains as of late (25% gains in 2018). You’ve heard of the fat-freezer CoolSculpting, or fat-melting lasers like SculpSure, and now we’ve got a newcomer Emsculpt which, ‘…Uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy to trigger what’s called supramaximal contractions (the kind that cannot be achieved by voluntary muscle action). It’s cleared by the Food and Drug Administration for the “improvement of abdominal tone, strengthening of the abdominal muscles, development of firmer abdomen, [and] strengthening, toning, firming of the buttocks.’
So we should be seeing a lot more players in the game.
Preventative treatments will rule
We’re big on preventative treatments and always have been. We’re seeing younger folks getting into this whole skincare bit and taking preventative measures to avoid more invasive treatments in the future.
